The computer I traveled with on my budget travel in Central America was a Apple Power-book 12 inch. The weight and size made it easy to conceal in a small tote bag to prevent theft. The only drawback with a 12 inch computer is not much screen space to really work with your site. I actually built my site from scratch and it was difficult. Now I've moved to a content management system (Joomla) and it is a lot easier to work with.

I also carried a usb thumb-drive to backup important files and installed PortableApps on it to use in Internet cafes if I could not use my laptop. PortableApps installed on a thumb-drive is having your own mini computer and your favorite applications all in a neat little device. Plus I always felt more secure using Internet cafe computers with my thumb-drive. Installing PortableApps is real easy to do.

A cheap digital camera always worked well for me. Plus I like the fact of not having to worry about expensive equipment.

Extension cord and surge protector are a must and never trust the wall plug for a direct power connection. There was a time in Honduras where I had no plug wall outlets in my room and had to use a light bulb socket plug adapator to get power for my laptop.

I would usually create the web content on my computer in my room and then transfer the data to my thumb-drive. Then head to a local Internet cafe and ftp the data to my site using PortableApps.
