Crossing a jungle river in Peru by bus.
Sometimes the bridge infrastructure is not quite in place to handle the big vehicles on the jungle roads of Peru. But that does not stop the Peruvian people from crossing the wide rivers feeding the Amazon.
On my way to Tocache from Juanjul we had to cross two sections of a river by makeshift floating barges. They attach 5 long steel boats together and each boat has a 40hp engine to keep the current from sweeping the barge down river.
With the bow of the barge facing the currents you slowly angle your way to the other side. Once on the other side it is sometimes necessary to move the buses position to allow the nose of the barge to clear the shoreline.

You are not required to exit the bus during the crossing, but usually everyone gets off the bus for safety purposes.

The jungle scenery between Juanjul and Tocache, Peru is very pretty. The climate is dryer and cooler here.
