Hot water shower in Guatemala

Most homes in Guatemala don't have a hot water heater. They have a little contraption built into the shower head.

There is only a cold water faucet and you just barely turn the water on and the lights will dim as it heats the water over your head. You can hear it start to boil. So the less you open the faucet the hotter the water is. This is one of the best ones I've used in Guatemala at the hotel I'm now in. The water pressure is real good. I've used a lot of them were the water just drips out and you usually end up with a cold shower if you want some decent pressure.

As you can see in the picture there is a electrical line that runs to the shower head. Sometimes when you touch the faucet you will receive a slight electrical tickle, if its not hooked up correctly.

So remember open the faucet barely for a real hot shower or open more for a cooler shower and more pressure. Finding the sweet spot is the trick.
