Walmart shower sandals

Serious gear reviews for serious travelers!
Cost: 3.00 USD
All it takes is one case of third world foot fungus and you quickly learn your lesson on taking a shower barefoot. Before I took off on my last trip to Guatemala, I paid a visit to my local Walmart and dropped the 3 dollars on the cheapest shower sandals in the store. My dad was with me and he agreed that the price was right. I also bought a 5 dollar watch, but that is another story. So stay tuned and stock-up on popcorn.
The color orange caught my fancy and I figured the color was great for theft protection. After 3 years of continuous use, no one has stolen them yet. Hey, I even wear them around town now and then.
Now I was expecting of maybe getting about 1 year of service out of these sandals, did I mention that they are going into the third year (wow.) The orange shower sandals have exceeded all my expectations, but slowly they are developing cracks. And I fear (losing sleep) the sandals useful days are getting near the end.
Recently I bought a new pair for 5.00 USD in Peru, South America. I know I paid way to much, but I was desperate in a beach town. Not wanting to walk in my worn sandals to the beach and risk a blow out and other personal issues (Example below.) So I dropped the cash.
Plus to tell you the truth, I was rather shamed to wear them in public. Yes I feel really great wearing them in the shower or hotel, but now I felt they degraded my appearance. With me being bald and the years ticking away, you have to start thinking about looking your best.
Also, my swim suit must have been about 15 years old and when coming out of the water the suit was practically transparent. I can't stand walking down the beach wearing a transparent suit and having major shrinkage. The shame. So I also had to buy a new pair of swim trunks and I also paid way to much. But I really liked the new swim trunks and dropped close to 13 dollars for some nice blue ones. I felt like Bill Gates must feel when he gets on his private 747, but hey I worked hard for these luxury items and some times you've got to live a bit.
There are days when I look in the mirror and I ask myself, (are you giving life your all?) Today I can honestly say, (hell yeah!)
New Years is getting near and I think a toast is called for. So here is to my 3 dollar Walmart sandals.
Cheers.
